Marketing Communications Intern

About Us:

Girls On Fire Leaders is seeking a part-time Communications & Development Intern who will have the experience of working with a new social enterprise and larger partner non-profit towards the education and empowerment of girls globally.  Must be able to have a positive and eager attitude towards “building from the ground up”.  You are a creator at heart & want to make a significant impact in the world!

Girls On Fire Leaders is a newly formed organization working with young girls in Nairobi, Kenya incubating a model that aims to connect global girls with leadership education and champions along milestones.  Our mission is to transform vulnerable girls into community leaders through education, travel, service, self-expression and global connectivity. 

The hub of our programs is a Girls On Fire Leadership Camp in Kenya where a group of girls from the slums travel all around Kenya working in diverse tribal villages on sustainable projects, developing their confidence and communication skills and connecting with other girls to solve big social issues, like FGM, illiteracy with street boys, gender violence, child marriage, poaching, etc.       

This camp will happen in December so the next 90 days will be very busy planning programs & curriculum for the camp, communication with donors and acquisition of new donors and engaging partners to sponsor the camp.

 

Internship Description

The Communication & Development Intern will have the opportunity to work closely with the Founder & Director to implement the fundraising and communications plans, and assist in a broad variety of fundraising tasks, grant writing, social media engagements and database support, and other tasks as needed. This internship offers the opportunity to gain valuable non-profit experience.

The intern will be responsible for many administrative functions, and will work on these main areas:

Development:

•       Write grants and other documents for funding. 

•       Research fundraising opportunities & contact potential donors

•       Reach out to potential partners & secure sponsorship

•       Grow and manage social media presence – must be a compelling storyteller with words, photos and video.  

•       Assist in budgeting and program planning. 

 

Marketing Communications:

•       Grow and manage social media presence – must be a compelling storyteller with words, photos and video.  

•       Produce donor communications, including newsletters, mailers, gift receipts, etc.

•       Assisting in drafting and updating current templates for improved donor retention efforts such as acknowledgement letters, appeals and thank you letters

•       Assist in planning, writing and managing crowd-funding campaign & communications. 

•       Assist with camp and event planning logistics

 

Qualifications:

•    High sense of personal integrity – keeps commitments and deadlines.

•    Excellent storyteller.  Create wonder so the view cannot do nothing but take action. 

•    Has an entrepreneurial spirit and thrives being a builder.   

•    Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills.

•    Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

•    Strong computer skills - Microsoft Office.

•    Strong social media skills to drive a desired action (i.e donations).  Thinks innovatively and engages compellingly.  

•    Is creative & knows how to use video & campaigns effectively.

•    Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize project deadlines.

•    PLUS:   educational, technology (e-learning), personal empowerment & development or curriculum development background.

Hours and Information: The start date is immediate with flexible hours. The intern would preferably be working remote with regular communication with the director between 9 – 6 pm Monday – Friday.  In the NYC area for meetings. 

Must have a commitment until December 15 with at least 20+ hours a work per week.
