Location: Kwale, Kenya- We work in 3 schools in LungaLunga and Kwale Town

Duration: 3 months (possibility to be renewed or hired based on performance) 

Start Date: Jan 1, 2023 

Organisational Background:

At Girls on Fire Leaders, we train, support and inspire adolescent girls in Kenya to lead change in their lives and communities, ensuring thousands of future female leaders. Across all our camps, the Girls on Fire Leadership Program provides a safe, structured curriculum of mentorship throughout the program year, providing enrolled participants with interactive workshops, field trips, service experiences, project challenges, guest speakers, and individual mentoring from our experienced mentorship team. We run workshops in schools 2-3 times a week.

Also, we carry out home visitations; organize workshops with different stakeholders especially in the education sector and the medical sector to enable a holistic approach to ensure a more accommodative approach to addressing adolescent girl leadership needs.

 Duties and Responsibilities

To enhance local communities’ participation and engagement in social norms transformation agenda

·         Engage community awareness on the importance of educating girls through community dialogues and outreaches.

·          Participate in the planning and implementation of girl led activities

·         Provide regular review to the organisation on program implementation and areas of improvement to make sure the program and the organisation at large is meeting the needs of girls at all 3 of our program locations

·         In collaboration with the programs manager, lead weekly workshops with grade 5,6 and 7 using the Girls on Fire Leaders curriculum

Reporting

Volunteers / will develop monthly reports and updates through a report that will be shared with a key focal person( The programs Manager) highlighting key activities, achievements, challenges and recommendations.

 Compensation

The organisation will provide a standard stipend per days of work.

Skills Needed

  • Degree level education in social sciences, development studies or any other relevant course

  • Ideally a minimum 1 (one) years of professional experience in the realm of adolescent /youth empowerment, youth networks and/or community engagement.

  • Demonstrated strong familiarity with issues related with gender equality and quality education, leadership or other SDG’s

  • Strong program and project management experience

  • Knowing project management methodology

  • Excellent interpersonal, networking and communication skills.

  • Excellent writing skills.

  • Demonstrating proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer skills

  • Industry-specific knowledge

  •  Excellent report writing skills.

  • Able to contribute and work as part of a team, adaptable and output oriented

Hours and Information: The start date is immediate with flexible hours. All volunteers must be able to work all day Saturdays and school holidays.

Must have a commitment for at least 3 months at 5-10 hours per week.

Social Media + Marketing Communications Intern (Kwale , Kenya)

Job Description

The Marketing & Communications Intern will have the opportunity to work closely with the Founder & Programs Manager to implement the fundraising and communications plans, and assist in a broad variety of fundraising tasks, grant writing, social media engagements and database support, and other tasks as needed. This internship offers the opportunity to gain valuable non-profit experience and be in a lively office space of hundreds of global social sector professionals.

The intern will be responsible for many administrative functions, and will work on these main areas:

  • Write and post engaging content on the GOF’s social media platforms in keeping with our voice and branding

  • Expand engagement with our content and build our online following with targeted growth techniques (organic and paid)

  • Share ideas and display creativity in social media marketing efforts

  • Produce donor communications, including newsletters, mailers, gift receipts, etc.

  • Assist in drafting and updating current templates for improved donor retention efforts such as acknowledgement letters, appeals and thank you letters

  • Assist in planning, writing and managing crowd-funding campaign & communications.

  • Assist with camp and event planning logistics

 

Qualifications:

  • 1+ years running the social media campaigns and digital strategy for a nonprofit or socially-driven brands.

  • High sense of personal integrity – keeps commitments and deadlines.

  • Excellent storyteller. Create wonder so the viewer feels compelled to take action.

  • Has an entrepreneurial spirit and thrives being a builder.

  • Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills in English

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

  • Strong social media skills to drive a desired action (i.e donations). Thinks innovatively and engages compellingly.

  • Is very creative & knows how to use video & campaigns effectively.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize project deadlines.

  • PLUS: educational, technology (e-learning), personal empowerment & development or curriculum development background.
